Review written by Sally Newman 13th March 2019

The Theme are a five piece band who formed in late 2011 and who hail from South East London. The Band is comprised of Paul Bassom on Guitars and Songwriting, Chris Daley on Vocals and Guitar, Peter Sim on Guitar and Harmonica, Bill Snowden on Drums and Ben Rutherford on Bass.

The Band attribute their musical influences to a variance of genres ranging from Ska and Punk to Rock and Blues.

The Theme released their debut EP “Hits the Sky” in February 2014 to huge critical acclaim. It also won the coveted title of “Best EP of 2014” from Galaxy Entertainment. A further EP was released in October 2015 called “In A Daze” which received outstanding reviews. In 2016 new Vocalist Chris Daley joined the Band and “Changes” was released. 2017 saw the release of the Band’s “LIQUID” album and in 2018 they released their “Hits the Sky Deluxe EP” and “Unplugged” album.

The Years 2012/13 saw The Theme gigging extensively all over London and further afield with sell out gigs at The 100 Club and The Clapham Grand. They were also the Band who were hailed as performing at the “Gig of the Year” when they supported Ocean Colour Scene and Weller Guitarist, Steve Craddock in Canning Town.

The Theme’s most recent offering entitled “Hold Me” was released on all digital platforms on the 15th February 2019.

So, what of this New Single from THE THEME entitled “HOLD ME”……..Well, its a power ballad of a tune no doubt! Its starts off with an electro vibe, that quickly switches up into a wonderful Mod twist in its lyrics reminiscent of both the 60’s and the 90’s cultures and which is expertly delivered by Lead Vocalist Chris Daley. There’s also a rocking anthem rhythm with some amazing guitar rifts carrying the song through. Its a catchy little number alright. You’ll find it instantly familiar as it encapsulates everything good that you love about music all in one song! It’s one of those songs that you listen to once and you immediately love it and want to listen to it again and again on repeat. I can see myself coming across this song on a playlist in years to come and reminiscing about all the goods times that have gone before whilst it was being played. Its one of those tunes to spark off nostalgia.

Why take my word for it though, why not have a little listen for yourself.
